Sunday's Trip to the Farmer's Market

I was up before 9am on Sunday morning.  Dogs are great for waking you up early, even on weekends.  I made a gusto brekkie of scrambled eggs wrapped in several organic romaine leaves with 50% reduced fat sharp white cheddar cheese.  We left for Tampa shortly after for a well overdue trip to the farmer's market.

Sweetwater Organic Community Farm opens to the public on Sunday's at noon.  They have a pretty amazing CSA program I wish I could participate in.  At the market you'll find vendors, vegan eats, fresh produce to purchase, live music and farm tours.  Bring the kids and leashed dogs for an earthy afternoon on the farm.

The place was packed with people bustling around.  I think it's fun to browse and talk to each of the vendors to see what they're offering.  The organic produce included some veggies from the farm, but mostly the kind of produce you'd find at a local health food store.  I ended up buying a bag of fresh organic basil, a few of the most beautiful zucchinis ever, an organic butternut squash and cherry tomatoes.

To be honest, I just like being on the farm. Here are a few photos for you to enjoy...

I'm looking forward to heading back to the farm this Sunday, but also want to finally check out St. Pete's Saturday Morning Market.  It's supposed to be spectacular!

Au revoir!

Sweetwater Organic Farm

The Earth Laughs

We finally made it to the Sweetwater Organic Farm Sunday Market! This place is amazing. An suburban oasis tucked away in the middle of Tampa along a creek. I love the vibe of the farm. Everything is organic and the people are friendly and knowledgeable. We took a farm tour and learned more about what they do. We want to start volunteering there to learn more about farming and get involved with the community. It's so much better to eat organic, in-season produce! Check out my previous blog: Aspiring Locavore

Sweetwater Organic Community Farm is a nonprofit educational organic farm providing healthy food, educational programs and community events for the Greater Tampa Bay community. Although we got a late start today, we did come home with a few treasures.

A dozen fresh eggs!

Baby Roma tomato plant

Cream Sausage tomato plant (white Roma)

4-pack homemade soap sampler

Sweetwater is having an Earth Day festival next Saturday starting at 11am. We're going to try to make that one and buy more produce... and hopefully sign up for the CSA!

After the farm we stopped at Home Depot for some household things, soil and pots. I fell in love with the orchids! Could not resist buying one... so many beauties that it was hard to choose. Here's my choice...

What a better time than now to move into even more of a
locavore/farmer lifestyle!
All signs point to YES.

Last night walking back to the car from the ska show there was a lonely plant on the sidewalk. It looked like it had fallen out of a window a few stories up and someone had already cleared away it's pot. I picked it up and brought it home. How can I resist a beautiful free plant?

The Lonely Plant

Not sure what kind of plant this is, but it looks like it blooms lovely pink flowers!
