Gettin' My Health Groove On!

Playing catch up again... ended up falling asleep before I could blog last night. Oops!

I've realized that for me to be happy in life I have to feel good in my body. When my body hurts it really impacts my daily activities. Doing healthy things for myself in turn make me a happy woman. Making the time for giving my body what it needs is vital to my well being. For example, here are some of the things that my body currently needs on a regular basis: the quality of consistent T-Tapp movement, alkaline water, organic God-made whole foods, weekly sauna sessions, body brushing, enough sleep, the proper supplements and a balance between work and play. I'm sure there are more, but that's all it's demanding from me right now... and that's a lot to keep up with!

There are times when we get so busy in life that we let those signals (or warning signs) from our body fade away as we attend to more important matters. For me that always results in running out of energy or wearing myself down even faster. If I take time out of my busy day to do a few of the important things on my body's to-do list, the other things seem to fall into place naturally.

The moral of this story is to tune into your body and find out what it's asking for. More veggies? More water? A nice afternoon nap? A few sets of Hoe Downs? A walk around the block? Take a little time for yourself each day to do something healthy for your body. And remember that what you do today helps you get closer to your goals tomorrow... and you'll feel better doing it!

I had a few sips of Marcel's all-fruit smoothie, which was pretty yummy.

Has to be the grossest photo ever, but the soup actually tasted delicious for a canned soup!

Roxy has been with me all week! I love having her around. She always puts a smile on my face.

Good news... I am feeling better after my serious detox this morning. Debating on whether or not to try it again tomorrow. It all depends how I feel when I wake up.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I listened to a meditation last night called Peaceful Perspective. I must have drifted off to dream land because I woke up this morning with my headphones still halfway on.

Wheatgrass Detox

I discovered the power of wheatgrass this morning!

Yesterday I got breakfast from Jamba Juice and was craving it again today. Jamba Juice has created an extensive menu since I did a marketing project on them in college. (We got the highest grade in the class for that project, btw.) I ordered the wheatgrass shot (I've been craving greens in the morning for weeks now) and a Blueberry & Blackberry Steel-cut Oatmeal with just a little brown sugar. They cut the wheatgrass fresh and juiced it right there. I drank the shot at the store... and thought it tasted so good! I wanted more.

Within 10 minute of starting my work day I was running to the bathroom so I didn't throw up green stuff on the floor... and ended up going back several times to repeat the process. I feel disgusting right now and wondered why it affected me like this. Good old Google came to the rescue as usual! I Googled: "nauseous from wheatgrass"...

According to Cityfarmer.org:

Besides detoxification, another reason why one might feel nauseous after drinking wheatgrass juice is if you drank it with or after a meal. Wheatgrass juice does not combine well with other foods and should always be taken on an empty stomach. After you drink wheatgrass juice, we suggest waiting an hour before eating; that's about how long it takes for the juice to be assimilated.

Finally, if you drink too much wheatgrass juice, you could feel uncomfortable. The general rule is to drink no more than 3 ounces at a time. (This isn't orange juice; don't try to shoot down an 8-ounce glass of it!)

In the health food industry it is said, "The more you feel it, the more you need it."

I Googled "benefits of wheatgrass" and the first site that came up was Hippocrates Institute, where Teresa Tapp (my boss) has done T-Tapp clinics and seminars over the years. Hippocrates is a renowned place here in Florida for total body wellness and healing.

Benefits of Wheatgrass from Hippocrates Institute
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-aging
  • Increases red blood-cell count
  • Lowers blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways throughout the body
  • Cleanses the blood, organs and gastrointestinal tract of debris
  • Stimulates metabolism and the body’s enzyme systems by enriching the blood
  • Restores alkalinity to the blood
  • Powerful detoxifier, and liver and blood protector
  • Fights tumors and neutralizes toxins
  • Contains beneficial enzymes
  • Soothes and heals a variety of skin issues when applied topically

Wheatgrass also...

Works as a sleep aide. Merely place a tray of living wheatgrass near the head of your bed. It will enhance the oxygen in the air and generate healthful negative ions to help you sleep more soundly.

Enhances your bath. Add some to your bath water and settle in for a nice, long soak.

Sweetens the breath and firms up and tightens gums. Just gargle with the juice.

Neutralizes toxic substances like cadmium, nicotine, strontium, mercury, and polyvinyl chloride.

And the chlorophyll in wheatgrass closely resembles hemoglobin, the compound that carries oxygen in the blood.

Wheatgrass is such an AMAZING Superfood! Looks like I may need to drink a shot a day for a little while to accelerate this detox I'm going through. I still have not been able to eat more than a few bites of my oatmeal... waiting out the nausea. Serves me right for skipping the Far Infrared Sauna, workouts, green drinks and Kangen alkaline water for almost 2 weeks! My body craves and needs all of those things regularly or else this happens. I think I've learned my lesson... the hard way this time.

On a lighter note my tummy is super flat and my jeans are literally falling off me today.

Au revoir!
