The Moon Diet

The Moon Rules Cancer by Johfra Bosschart

My mom has studied astrology for years and I find it fascinating. She can tell me things based on the current planetary alignment and my natal chart (where the planets were when I was born) that make a lot of sense with what's happening or on the horizon at the time. I really appreciate having this insight and intellect in my life!  It's like getting advice from the cosmos.  Yesterday I read an email from her that included a link to a video by Rose Astrology about the New Moon in Cancer on July 11, 2010. This new moon is also a solar eclipse, which means the power of the moon's effects on us is about tenfold.  The moon actually rules the sign of Cancer also, which involves emotions, feelings, nurturing.  The video (linked above) discusses being in the present moment and focusing on how you feel, then nurturing yourself and others around you.  It's a good time to take care of our bodies, minds and spirits and be kind to one another.

CURRENT MOON

As I was stumbling around the internet today I discovered the Moon Diet.  It's not really a "diet" at all, but a short-term 24-hour liquid fast.  Mainly focusing on drinking pure water and also freshly squeeze vegetable juice.  On the T-Tapp Forums I've been reading the Nutrition/Diet section and all of the Eat Stop Eat (ESE) posts and to me the premise of the Moon Diet is pretty similar to ESE in the respect that you take one day to allow your body to cleanse and detoxify itself with fluids.  Only the Moon Diet follows the cycles of the moon.

Excerpt from Lunaf.com:
Centuries ago people associate the Moon with magic, space, romance and cyclic patterns. It is scientifically proven, when the Moon enters into a new lunar phase, a change occurs in the geomagnetic field of the Earth. The moon affects tides, the growth of plants, the breeding of the animals, and strongly effects the emotional and physical state of humans.
The lunar diet at full moon and new moon, 24 hours moon diet, or the three-day moon diet, each of these diets related to the lunar calendar, could help to regulate and maintain your normal weight or to clean your body.

(Lunaf.com is a pretty neat little site, btw.)

I've been seriously considering trying out ESE for the detoxification and health benefits.  Lately I've felt like I need to detoxify regularly to feel healthy (ie: sauna sessions, alkaline water, T-Tapp workouts, body brushing, oil pulling, massage, cleaner eating).  The more of those things I do, the better I feel.  So I think it's a good time for me to start! At least I'll try it out and see if it helps me.  Now I just need to purchase the ESE e-book (highly recommended on the T-Tapp Forum for success and better understanding behind the science of the program), alkaline water and organic veggies.

Au revoir!

Egg Foo Yummy!

I managed to squeeze in my morning routine of oil pulling for 10 minutes, Primary Back Stretch, Body Brushing, eating a healthy breakfast... and made it to work on time.

I plan on doing a full workout tonight, probably Ladybug Workout. I'm feeling much better today after eating healthy foods and drinking a ton of water. Maybe my body doesn't like beef? I had almost 2 of those little sliders on Saturday and the beef casserole on Sunday. Come to think of it, I rarely eat beef these days.

8:10am: fresh organic beet/carrot/apple juice, 2 boiled eggs

I love the color of beets! So pretty.

1 organic beet
+ 8-10 organic carrots
+ 1 red delicious apple
= Yum!

Morning supplements:
Alfalfa: 3
B-12: 3 sprays
Cellfood: 8 drops
Pyruvyl Glycine: 4 sprays

Water: 1 liter

12:05pm: leftover casserole (easy on the beef), slice of whole grain stuffed bread

Afternoon supplements:
Alfalfa: 3
B-12: 4 sprays
Pyruvyl Glycine: 4 sprays

Water: 1 liter

After lunch I did 6 sets of Hoe Downs straight through with Jen! I'm getting stronger because by set 5 I was just getting winded and feeling my hips. We're working our way up to 10 reps or more!

7:15pm: peanut butter covered red delicious apple slices

After that tasty little snack I did Ladybug Workout Standing. I'm really feeling off today. Seems like this workout was much harder than last time.

8:00pm: Egg Foo Yummy (our new term for "fried" brown rice with eggs)

Water: 0.5 liter

  • Brown rice (cooked)
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Frozen peas and carrots
  • MorningStar Asian Veggie patty cut up
  • Lite soy sauce
  • Tbsp EVOO
  • Sesame seeds
I cook everything separately and then mix it all together. Yum!
It's healthy too!

Marcel helping me cook. So cute. :) ♥

Total Water: 2.5 liters

That's a lot of water!!! Going to watch Project Runway and head to bed.

The Power of Jus!

I have to say this product is the most antioxidant rich supplement I have ever heard of. Packaged in a beautiful blue bottle, one shot a day gives you and ORAC value higher than all other power "juice" products on the market!

Normally I don't do these type of bottled power juices frequently. This one is not bad in flavor at all! I have to take it with breakfast. Energy levels definitely improved shortly after. It will also help accelerate the healing process and is anti-aging. Can't go wrong there!

Here's some of the info from their site...

A symphonic blend of 23 of the worlds most powerful superfoods

Scientists and nutritionists agree that consuming vibrant natural foods, in all the colors of the rainbow, is one of the most powerful nutrition strategies. One "magic fruit" can't be everything to everyone. Jus combines 23 of nature's superfoods from all over the earth which, due to respective climates and geology, contain unique levels and types of antioxidants as well as other health-improving compounds. Just as a full ensemble of expert musicians is exponentially more powerful in sound than a flute soloist, a symphony of powerful berries and herbs stack synergistically to provide the body with the balance and tools it needs to counteract a wide variety of health problems.

Greater than the sum of its parts.

When antioxidant pigments are combined, their benefits overlap and provide superior protection. The RIGHT combination of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients have been shown to positively affect the body's health at a far greater rate than consuming them individually. Strong and diverse, antioxidants combine with naturally-occurring vitamins, proteins, trace minerals and other health-improving compounds. By drinking Jus, we're confident you'll feel the powerful effects of its proprietary blend of berries, fruits and herbs.

Jus has an extremely high ORAC score for the simple reason that its ingredients naturally provide many of the vitamins, minerals and compounds necessary for the body to function at optimum efficiency. Jus does not artificially inflate ORAC scores through artificial additives or synthetic vitamins. We let nature do it's job.

Aspiring Locavore

Recently I was inspired by an article in a local paper about a woman who decided to eat only locally grown and produced foods. She had a few challenges and definitely made some drastic adjustments to her eating habits/diet, but overall it was worth her while.

I've been meaning to start eating local for a long time now. It's so convenient to stop at the grocery store on the way home (usually Publix), but they don't carry much locally grown or organic foods at all. The produce section has local strawberries, cherry and grape tomatoes, but everything else is imported from different countries or states (mostly California). It really bothers me because we have so many wonderful farms in Florida.

That means that my food travels approximately 2,743 miles (about 1 day 16 hours in driving time) to reach my table. How much am I paying to ship the food that far? That must mean that the food is harvested early so when it actually gets here it's about ripe and ready-to-eat.

Eating local is referenced as someone who is a "locavore" and finds all of their food within a about a 100 mile radius of their home.

According to Wikipedia:

A locavore is someone who eats food grown or produced locally or within a certain radius such as 50, 100, or 150 miles. The locavore movement encourages consumers to buy from farmers’ markets or even to produce their own food, with the argument that fresh, local products are more nutritious and taste better. Locally grown food is an environmentally friendly means of obtaining food, since supermarkets that import their food use more fossil fuels and non-renewable resources.

"Locavore" was coined by Jessica Prentice from the San Francisco Bay Area on the occasion of World Environment Day 2005 to describe and promote the practice of eating a diet consisting of food harvested from within an area most commonly bound by a 100 mile radius. "Localvore" is sometimes also used.

The New Oxford American Dictionary chose locavore, a person who seeks out locally produced food, as its word of the year 2007.[6] The local foods movement is gaining momentum as people discover that the best-tasting and most sustainable choices are foods that are fresh, seasonal, and grown close to home. Some locavores draw inspiration from the The 100-Mile Diet or from advocates of local eating like Barbara Kingsolver whose book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle chronicles her family's attempts to eat locally. Others just follow their taste buds to farmers' markets, community supported agriculture programs, and community gardens.

A study in the 2007 Dewey Health Review revealed that a Locavore diet (study included 100 individuals ages 18-55 eating local food grown within an 80 mile radius) resulted in a 19% increase in sturdiness of bowel movement and an overall drop in sleep apnea and night terrors.

So this "locavore" is a newer lifestyle that's better for you and the environment. Eating foods that are in season and produced locally (usually without chemicals/pesticides/etc) is better for the body, green and very GM.

My first goal is to actually GO to a local farmers market. We have several around the Tampa area.

My second goal is to get back into juicing. I was really doing it daily for a while and then just stopped. It will be more helpful for me to use produce that's in season too.

JOURNAL
8:30am
Today is day 1 of my Nivea & Natural Glow challenge. After PBS, brushing and a shower I applied the Nivea Gel-Cream. It smells pretty good and is blue. It doesn't leave the body sticky and seems to rub in nicely. Then I applied the Natural Glow to my entire body. Then I waited a few minutes before applying the Nivea Patches. They didn't stick so well, but it might be the lotion. I have to say it was difficult pulling my jeans on afterwards. The package says to use the patches 2-3 times per week and gives you 6 per package, plus a coupon. I will need to buy more to complete the 30 days. If they work, I'll be stocking up for sure. Can't wait to say "good-bye" to mine.

9:14pm
I did pretty good today!

VideoJug.com: Detoxification & Juicing

I discovered Videojug.com! This website is sort of like YouTube.com, but every video explains "how to" do or make something. Most of the videos are done by people with English accents (which I love). This site is very educational!

I recently bought a juicer - LOVE IT! Here are some of the interesting and informative detoxification videos I like...
