IMPORTANT Information About Photo Submission

Earlier this year we held the January Jump Start Challenge and tried something new with an online form where participants entered their information and uploaded photos directly on our site. This method helped us keep everything more organized. We are using the same form for this challenge as well.

Many people had trouble with the photo submission section due to having to resize and name the photos properly. This is VERY important. Your photos are how Teresa will choose winners, so we need to make sure that yours are accurate, clear and the right size. Please refer to the Photograph Rules for complete details.

Make sure your images are resized to be less than 200KB using the photo resizing tool on the entry page.

The server can't handle really large photos, so if you are having a problem processing this form or receive a username/password prompt your file size may be exceeding the maximum allowed. Please use the file size tool provided in the photo instructions to reduce your file size and try again.

Last time some tried resizing the images themselves and sometimes it worked, but sometimes the images were way too small and we had to ask for resubmission. So PLEASE use the tool that is linked from the site to size your images correctly. (See Below.) Also PLEASE keep all your original photos so that if we need them resubmitted you have them on file.

How to Use the Handy Photo Resizing Tool

Use THIS TOOL to resize your pictures and then:
1. Browse and select the image from your computer.
2. Select "Custom 1000px" for image size.
3. Skip Step 3.
4. Select "Better" for image quality to stay under 200k.
5. Click Resize.
6. Click on the link "Download this picture Now".
7. A Save As Box will pop up. Save the file to a place on your computer, like your desktop, where you can find the file easily.
8. Rename the photographs according to the Photograph Rules.

It's VERY important that this is done correctly. If you have any trouble with this function you may contact Kitty directly at kitala@aol.com.

We know this is an extra step and really appreciate your understanding.

We LOVE This Challenge!

Here at T-Tapp we love this challenge because the stories of successes from our clients continue to motivate and inspire us every year. This is a wonderful time for you to get fit for the summer and enter for a chance to win attendance at the Retreat to workout with Teresa Tapp herself.

60-Day Challenge participants always start a support thread on the T-Tapp Forum. If you're not already a Forum member, sign up for free today!

Talk About Muscle Awareness!

Exercise

Today was fabulous and full of killer workouts with Teresa Tapp at the Safety Harbor Spa!!! My legs are like jello. My buns are still burning. And my lats, pecs and arms are very aware of all that activation they did earlier.

I willingly got out of bed this morning (although I have to admit going to sleep last night was fairly difficult) to participate in a morning workout at 7:00am in Safety Harbor. I absolutely adore Safety Harbor and can't wait to become a resident Safety Harborian! It's moving time people... and moving is stressful. I really needed these workouts to help calm down my cortisol and balance out my body.

Teresa taught us two workouts today! It's been a long time since I've gotten a chance to workout with the creator of the T-Tapp program in a small group setting. Everyone works harder on form around Teresa... and we all feel that "muscle awareness" later too!

Our workouts today consisted of modified versions of the Total Workout with new tweaks that only Berei has been privy to. Let me just say that those tweaks really work!!! After the first workout I felt like a new woman... very positive and happy attitude with endorphins, detox and Teresa to thank. I can't wait for the workout DVD to come out for this routine.

The afternoon workout was a bit faster paced since we were building upon the morning's session. Teresa also added in Balance Sequence and Thread the Needle (check out these moves @ http://t-tapp.com/try) for even more core concentration, then we called it a day. I miss days like this and hope for more in the near future. My hips and thighs already feel smaller. Thanks T!

After work I headed over to spend some time in the Far Infrared Sauna and refill my water jug with Kangen 9.5pH.

Eats

Brekkie

Egg on 1/2 toasted Ezekiel English Muffin with Spinach and Seriously Sharp White Cheddar.

After the morning workout I had a Grande Nonfat Vanilla Latte.

Again, it wasn't perfect... and this was a different store! I think the universe is trying to tell me to quit the lattes again. Think I'll stick to those unsweet iced green teas.

Lunch

A quick Kashi Lemongrass Coconut Chicken... well, 1/2 before the afternoon workout and the rest after. Kashi entrees are on sale for $2.50 each at Publix right now!

Dinner

1/2 of this 1/2 of a Publix Turkey Sub with a Spinach upgrade!

Then finished off the rest of that Pro Bar...

Supplements

Alfalfa: 3 caps
B-12 Plus: 4 sprays
Pyruvyl Glycine: 12 sprays
Vitamin D3: 4 sprays

Water intake today: 2.5 liters

Veggies today: 3
Fruits today: 0.5

Au revoir!

P.S. I've been cleaning, organizing, purging material possessions all evening. It's been a looong day... and now I need my beauty rest.

The Biggest Weight-loss Mistake Women Make

I came across this on the web today and it really makes sense!

The Biggest Weight-loss Mistake Women Make

One of the top roadblocks women run into when they're trying to slim down has nothing to do with food or a treadmill: It's not getting enough sleep. Missing out on rest causes your body to produce more of the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin and less of the appetite-controlling hormone leptin. One study found that people ate an average of 221 more calories when sleepy—an amount that could translate into gaining a pound of fat every two weeks if you're consistently sleep-deprived! To be sure you're getting the most out of your Body by Glamour food-and-fitness plan, make sure you're logging seven to nine hours of shut-eye a night.

Ghrelin sounds like an evil little creature, doesn't it?! Yet another reason to get more beauty rest (and focus on my goal of going to bed by 10pm and waking up by 6am).

Here's a past T-Tapp newsletter by Teresa Tapp that explains this a bit more.

The Hormone That Makes You Hungry!

April 2004

Since I've been working with several hospitals across the nation teaching pre and post rehabilitative exercise programs for Bariatric or LapBand patients, I've been exposed to research data that substantiates the importance of hormonal balance for weight control.

Did you realize that one of the strongest appetite stimulants known is called Ghrelin (pronounced GREL-in), a hormone produced within the human body? It's so potent that people injected with it immediately become so hungry they chow down as if there's no tomorrow. Researchers have suggested that Ghrelin, which is produced in the gut, might be the reason why the more people diet, the hungrier they feel and why so many diets fail.

Ghrelin links the stomach to the brain chemically, letting the stomach communicate a "feed me" signal when food gets scarce. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, May 2002, reveals that when dieters lost 17% of their body weight, their levels of Ghrelin rose by 24%. "This may be the way the body tries to fight weight loss, a survival signal that evolved to get us to search for food in times of scarcity," says endocrinologist David Cummings of the University of Washington and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, the lead author. "So that, of course, suggests use of an anti-ghrelin drug could be used to fight weight."

Dieting raises the level of Ghrelin but shrinking the stomach through surgery lowers it…and lowers weight, perhaps by reducing the hunger signal along with the organ size. Cummings and his colleagues looked at 5 obese patients who had gastric bypass surgery to shrink the stomach so less food gets absorbed. Amazingly, all their Ghrelin levels plummeted by more than 70%. "These people lost a lot of weight, and we've often thought the reason can't just be mechanical," says Philip Schauer, a surgeon at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center and a gastric bypass-expert. "Sure the area that holds food gets smaller, but that shouldn't stop between-meal snacking and slurping milkshakes. Our patients say they have a much-reduced appetite."

However, research continues because hunger is a complex sensation and past attempts to find a single key have not panned out. The last appetite hormone to weigh in with big promises was Leptin, in 1995, but it has yet to yield a successful diet drug. But Ghrelin may have more to offer. "It makes you hungry, in theory, so all you need to do is block it, and it's relatively easy to find compounds that block," says endocrinologist Eleftheria Maratos-Flier of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, "With Leptin, we never really understood the physiology that well."

Weight loss is a tricky business and researchers have been disappointed by other substances besides Leptin. "You don't want to focus on one thing and say -This is it,” cautions Maratos-Flier. "There's Leptin, there's Ghrelin, and above the neck, in the brain, there are several other substances that affect appetite." And the gastric bypass patients had their stomachs physically rewired, so what happens to them could be very different in people without drastic plumbing changes.

Cummings agrees. "If we end up with anything, it may be a kind of cocktail. Look, hunger is important in our evolution and we have many backup mechanisms to keep us from starving so we may need to deal with all of them."

Our body produces a variety of substances that make us feel hungry or make us feel full. Here are some of the major ones:

  • LEPTIN - A protein made by fat cells appears to produce a sensation of being full, but overweight people resist its effects.
  • GHRELIN - Made in the stomach, this hormone's levels drop as people eat and rise when they don't.
  • OREXINS - These proteins stimulate neurons in the hypothalamus, a brain region that influences appetite.
  • NEUROPEPTIDE Y - A brain protein that stimulates hunger (at least in rodents), but Leptin may work by disrupting it

So, can you see why approaching weight loss by diet alone doesn't work? The human body is a complex machine that's always working towards homeostasis. A calorie in vs. calories out is an oversimplified approach to weight loss. Not all calories are created equal - in fact, some calories can create biochemical imbalances. Then we have to consider what "chemical calories" we consume and how they affect our endocrine system, but I'll talk about those within another newsletter.

Clinical studies have proven that exercise is the most important factor in successful weight loss and/or weight management. The human body is designed to move and needs movement to stimulate important metabolic factors. The T-Tapp Basic and Total Workouts were created to be much more than a workout to burn calories and fat. In fact, I designed these workouts to help the body help itself rebuild primary body functions such as digestion, assimilation and elimination, as well as lymphatic and neuro-kinetic flow. The special sequences of these movements also stimulate release of several neuro-transmitters, hormones and other biochemical factors involved in metabolic homeostasis. There's a lot more involved within T-Tapp besides comprehensive/compound muscle movement, linear alignment and leverage isometrics! Additionally, while working with people of size these past 2 years, I realized I needed to create a special version of T-Tapp Total Workout called T-Tapp More - for those who have more to lose, more candles on the cake, or more health issues to overcome. I'm happy to report that T-Tapp More is now available! Even though most movements are done with 4 repetitions, these workouts are challenging even for the beginner/intermediate exerciser when done with continual isometric activation during large muscle movements, NBT and KLT.

So in summary, one must eat to lose! Don't diet - enjoy quality food and move your body. The definition of calorie is "energy unit" and our bodies NEED energy to function! In my opinion, the easiest way to regain control of food consumption is to follow the "God Made/Man Made Dietary Plan". For 2 days consume only "God Made" foods (i.e.: meat, vegetables, soups and salads) and then for 1 day relax and consume "Man Made" foods (i.e.: anything processed with preservatives or commercially created). Continue with the 2-day/1 day plan for 6 to 8 weeks followed by an every other day plan for maintenance. The combination of this with T-Tapp allows freedom to enjoy favorite foods without guilt and the ability of the body to overcoming cravings. It's all about bio-balance - chemically, mechanically, mentally, emotionally and physically.

Hungry hormone Ghrelin, is just one piece of the puzzle, but I hope this newsletter has created better understanding why diet deprivation actually makes it more difficult to lose.

So, MOVE IT and MAKE IT HAPPEN ------ Yes You Can with T-Tapp!

Best wishes to all,

Teresa Tapp

There, now I feel a bit more educated.

Au revoir!

Get Healthy & Fit Game Plan

This time of year is known to get people to make healthier choices. Spring is just around the corner and I want to be healthier and fit by then. I was planning on starting a new Get Healthy & Fit Game Plan after seeing my depressing January Jump Start Challenge results. Normally I get amazing results with T-Tapp, but there is so much else going on with my body that I need to take other things into account. What better time than NOW to begin making healthier choices.

"Exercise is your king, and nutrition is your queen. Together they create your fitness kingdom." -- Jack LaLanne
I'm going to take that quote to heart focus on those two things: exercise and nutrition.

Here's my plan...

Do At Least Three 45+ Minute T-Tapp Workouts Per Week
Now that the January Jump Start Challenge is over, I can do whatever workouts and exercises I want to do. It's a sigh of relief really. I loved using T-Tapp MORE, but will be glad to go back to using workouts like Tempo 2, Maxi Max #1 and Ladybug Workout.

Workout Plan:
  • I'm going to start with a 4-day Boot Camp using Tempo 2 - 8 Reps. If I have enough time and energy after that workout I will go to the floor and add: Organs in Place/Half Frogs, 30 Crunches, 15 Oblique Sit-ups (each side), Awesome Legs, Pretzel Twist and Diva Derriere.
  • After Boot Camp I will switch to an every other day schedule, which is 3 full workouts per week with days off in between. I will start to mix up my routine a bit by using different T-Tapp workouts during the week.
  • Off days (aka Rest Days) can be taken completely off OR do 20 minutes or less of T-Tapp movement OR walk outside using T-Tapp techniques. Either Basic Plus Tempo, T-Tapp MORE OR Primary Back Stretch + the floor moves listed above will be my go-to off day routine.
I want to start doing some yoga and more core building moves in addition to T-Tapp. Angela @ Oh She Glows did a Whittle My Middle 30-Day Challenge that included a lot of core building moves that I would love to do. So I may work in her little routine a few days a week.

Body Brush Daily
I need to keep up this habit up. Found that I really missed brushing during my vacation! Body brushing helps with reducing inflammation, as well as exercising the skin to keep it tight and reduce the appearance of cellulite, but it also has a lot of other benefits too! Click that body brushing link above to read my previous blog on this subject.

Eat Clean, God-made, Organic and Anti-inflammatory Foods
I will try to follow Teresa Tapp's God-made/Man-made (GM/MM) dietary guidelines for the most part. These simple guidelines limit the amount of man-made processed foods to every third day. So you eat clean, wholesome, naturally found-on-Earth foods for 2 days; then can eat something you've been craving, like pizza or brownies, on the third day. The 2 days of eating clean allow your body the time to process the man-made foods. God-made foods include: fruit, vegetables, lean meats, dairy, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.

I will buy all organic produce, meats and grains as much as possible. I want to feed my body the best nutrition I can find, without all of the pesticides, chemicals, food additives and GMOs.

I really like Dr. Weil's Anti-inflammatory Diet Tips! And Dr. Perricone has always promoted eating anti-inflammatory foods to slow aging and increase body efficiency. Dr. Perricone even calls the T-Tapp workout "the anti-aging workout" in his book Dr. Perricone's 7 Secrets to Beauty, Health, and Longevity: The Miracle of Cellular Rejuvenation. Amazing! Here's his take on pro-inflammatory foods:

Foods can be pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory. Pro-inflammatory foods promote wrinkles, disease, accelerate aging and cause the storage of fat. Pro-inflammatory, sugary, starchy foods causes a loss of radiance, dark circles under the eyes, loss of tone, increased line and wrinkles, loss of facial contours, increased puffiness and pore size. These foods also exacerbate acne, which is a systemic, inflammatory disease. Sugars and starches rob your youth, health and beauty.
Beauty, yet another reason to eat clean!

Limit Alcohol to 1-2 Glasses of Wine Per Week
I'm omitting beer and grain alcohol since they tend to put on weight faster. All alcohol is pro-inflammatory, so I figure a glass or two of wine per week won't hurt my results much.

Limit Added Sugar and Dessert
I want to try to cut out sugar in my coffee in the morning and other products that have added sugars as much as I can. I may even cut out coffee altogether and switch to organic tea instead.

I'm also going to limit dessert to one time every other week. Not that I eat that many sweets, but over the last month I did enjoy some ice cream and chocolates.

Getting waterlogged daily with 2-3 liters
Lately I have been reaching my 2 liter goal per day, but it can't hurt to drink more water.

That's it for now! Some of my other goals are nutrition related. I need to find a good daily multi-vitamin/mineral supplement and to start taking Vitamin D3 and Omega-3 daily.

Wish me luck!

T-Tapp Media in Atlanta

Yesterday morning on Fox 5 Atlanta during the 8am hour Teresa Tapp and Renee McLaughlin demonstrated some T-Tapp workout techniques. Renee is a local T-Tapp Trainer here in Atlanta. Great video clip!

That was a part of the T-Tapp Broom workout they showed. I think it's very cool to use a household item to workout with! Can't get better than practically free, right?

What a coincidence that T-Tapp had Atlanta media during the same week that we're up here.

Teresa Tapp was also on the Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy Radio Show yesterday morning.

2009 T-Tapp Retreat: Power of Mindful Movement

Date: Thursday, October 1st through Sunday, October 4th

Location: Safety Harbor Resort & Spa, Safety Harbor, Florida

Trainer: Teresa Tapp

The focus of this year’s Retreat is the Power of Mindful Movement for Better Brain and Body Function, including Menopause Management. Teresa Tapp will teach how to implement the primary principles of T-Tapp and muscle activation techniques into daily activity to optimize metabolic function and how to apply T-Tapp techniques to improve effectiveness of traditional exercise training and how to increase the intensity of any T-Tapp workout without increasing reps or sets.

We are so delighted go have Mary Shomon as our keynote speaker this year! She will share her expertise on how to optimize thyroid function, as well as dysfunction along with menopause management. With her new book, The Menopause Thyroid Solution, comes out in July 2009 and features over 30 pages about T-Tapp! In fact, a special clinic will be offered on the workout featured in her book called "Mindful Movement for Menopause Management" at this Retreat. We'll have a book signing opportunity for everyone too.

Each day of the Retreat we'll be doing a morning stretch, a full workout and a specialty clinic along with our usual wine and cheese reception, hearty meals with some healthy options, and decadent coffee bar. A T-Tapp Retreat isn't your typical fitness retreat! Remember the average inch loss during the Retreat is 8 inches – and that's not water weight – it's YOURS for the long term! Complete schedule will be posted shortly.

Additionally, due to popular demand, this year's retreat will have a special "click session clinic" that will teach everyone how to look better in pictures, how to walk a catwalk, how to make your legs look longer (and leaner) while sitting, and how to step down stairs without looking down or losing balance. Lots of tips and shared secrets will be revealed from Teresa Tapp’s experience of 20 years working within the modeling world of fashion.

If you haven't met T-Tapp Trainer Heather Petrie, who was featured in People magazine (June 1st, 2009 issue) and on Good Morning America, just wait until you have the opportunity to meet her at the Retreat! Heather has a passion for helping people dealing with debilitating diseases and helping them regain their health. She has lost over 100 pounds with T-Tapp and kept it off for 9 years!

Charlotte Siems will also be attending the Retreat this year. We’re happy to have her back to share more of her inspiring journey to wellness. Did you miss Charlotte’s T-Tapp Success Story video clip from the last two Retreats? Watch it Now!

Immediately following the Retreat we are hosting the T-Tapp Trainer Certifications at the Safety Harbor Spa starting Monday, October 5th through Wednesday, October 7th. During the Trainer Certification Retreat, you may attend as many T-Tapp Certification classes as you wish for free (just pay hotel room). There will also be additional Guest Speakers during this event. Details coming soon!

TappCore Press Release

Best Selling Author and Fitness Expert Teresa Tapp Launches TappCore, a Free Fitness Program for Schools Nationwide

Schools Fight Childhood Obesity by Implementing the TappCore Program

Tampa Bay, Florida February 19, 2009 -- Best selling author and muscle activation/fitness expert Teresa Tapp is launching her TappCore program nationwide. TappCore is a left brain/right brain, fundamental fitness program created for students and teachers. The program, which is offered free to schools, includes nine neuro-kinetic exercises designed to build strength, flexibility and healthy heart function without impact or equipment. Each exercise is taught in great detail and then offered without instruction on DVD for easy classroom use.

TappCore DVD
Tapp has been rolling out the TappCore program in Florida. In 2007, Florida governor Charlie Crist mandated an extra 30 minutes of physical activity every week for school children in Florida. TappCore provides a simple, effective and fun way for schools to help fulfill this mandate without additional expenditures. Governor Crist recently sent Tapp a letter of appreciation for her efforts to promote physical activities for children.

Building upon TappCore's success in Florida, Tapp is expanding the program to schools nationwide. Tapp says, "In an age of increasing obesity in children, it is vitally important that we get our children in the habit of physical activity early in their lives." According to Tapp, "Every time you activate muscles, you increase circulation and lymphatic function. Just three minutes of TappCore can boost mental clarity and attention span."

About TappCore
Unlike traditional exercise, only one set of eight repetitions is needed. There's never a need to increase the number of sets or repetitions and no level of strength, coordination or flexibility is needed to start. Students don't need to be athletically inclined, so peer pressure becomes less of an issue. Students learn how to create full fiber muscle activation so they can look, feel and think better. Because TappCore stimulates left brain/right brain function, it improves mental focus, coordination and kinetic awareness. TappCore can also help prevent injury. Statistics show that developmental bodies have greater chance of injury. Not only have injuries been increasing each year, median age keeps decreasing. TappCore exercises comprehensively strengthen and support joint movement to help prevent injury. TappCore only requires three square feet of space, so it can be done anywhere, such as a classroom, hallway, gym or outdoors. Teachers and students alike can benefit from this fundamental fitness program.
